Apple Cake (Jablkový Koláč)

Here is a recipe for an easy traditional Slovak apple cake. It consists of a cinnamon apple filling between two layers of dough.It is based on recipe from We made this desert to go with our “Thanksgiving” stuffed trout.

Ingredients: 400g flour (~4 cups), 2 sticks (250g) butter, 1 cup (100g) powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons milk if needed, 2 lbs apples, vanilla sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Prep Time: 2 hours

Sift the flour and add sliced butter, eggs, and powdered sugar.

Turn ingredients into dough. Add milk if needed.

Cut dough into two halves and roll out one with the help of wax paper. Transfer to a baking pan.

Next grate the apples and mix in cinnamon and vanilla sugar to taste.

Transfer the apple filling over the dough layer.

Next roll out the second piece of dough. Carefully transfer over the apples. Bake in an oven preheated to 390F for about half an hour, until the dough is done.

Let cool down and slice into squares. Top with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
